I store photos as jpegs in various folders within My
Documents , when I go back to them they are displayed as
a photoimpression icon. I then cannot open them with any
program on my computer. windows picture and fax viewer
says " no preview available" , photoimpressions says "
unrecognized format" , and sometimes windows says "
explorer must close , sorry for the inconvenience " .
Also , this is not every time , it seems almost random
across any folder containing jpeg.s .It'sas if they are
getting corrupted somehow. Can you give me any
suggestions ?Also any jpeg stored in My Pictures folder
is included as a desktop picture in the desktop menu
files.

Sounds like you may have several issues...maybe
something in the following suggestions will help:

===

(326675) "No Preview Available" and "File
Format Is Not Supported" Error Messages
Occur When You Try to View Graphic Files
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326675

===

Try resetting your image associations to "Windows
Picture And Fax Viewer".

Open an image folder and right click one of your
image files...from the menu, select...Open With /
Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list. Once you
make your selection...be sure to check the box
that says: "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

===

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

===

Try this:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

===

By design, all images in your My Pictures folder
will be available in the Desktop Background list.
If you wish to remove your images from this list
all you have to do is move the images to a different
folder.

I have noticed that if I exceed 100 images in My
Pictures the files no longer show in the Background
list. There may be a way to edit this number but I
don't know how.
