kb960714 vs VPN and Virtual Packet Driver protocols

Posted: 01-22-2009, 06:13 PM
Ever since the security update kb960714 got pushed down to us, we have a
number of computers that are experiencing total failure of the network
connection (not pingable, can't log onto domain, no internet, no roaming
profile, etc...). It seems to be mostly with broadcom 57xx netxtreme network
cards. We can often get the virtual packet driver (a protocol layered onto
the network connection that allows ancient dos programs to communicate with
modern networks), but can't get vpn working. This stuff worked great for the
last 5 years or so until this update. Any suggestions? We have tried
re-imaging and reinstalling in various orders, but the end result generally
seems to be no vpn.

You're having issues with an IE8 Beta 2 patch and you're why? IE8 is
beta after all.

There were some new drivers just released for the 5700 today. They're
a tiny point release update to the one's released in late December but
it might be worth trying out.

Oops, I meant Netxtreme II. Netxtreme I (5700) had a new driver
released in late Dec.
