keyboard and mouse no responding

When I booted up this morning my keyboard and mouse would
not respond. I unplugged the mouse from the round pin
connection and plugged it into a USB and it worked but I
still can't get the keyboard to respond. I checked the
device manager and it shows the keyboard and mouse as OK.
I don't know what to do now. I have a HP Pavilion 732m
with XP Home with all the updates. Any ideas?
