Default keyboard character change??

hi
is it possible to change the characters assigned to
individual keys? my laptop is an american model and i
wish to change just one character on the keyboard (i wish
only to change the output of one key which is to change
the dollar sign to display the uk '£' sign). i have
changed the language and keyboard settings but this
changes the output of a number of keys

thx

You probably already know this, but if not...I don't know about changing
characters on the keyboard, but in the mean time use ALT + 0163 to get £.
Respectfully,

You are welcome. In that same vein: Start/Programs/Accessories/System
Tools/Character Map. You can find all kinds of symbols there. ® Ö ß © Æ ?
for example.
