left channel not working in WM 10

Posted: 07-29-2006, 04:42 AM
For some reason the left channel on my Windows Media 10 (on Windows XP) does
not seem to play anything (CD, MP3), not in headphones nor in speakers in the
monitor. Other audio sources and software (internet, etc.) play both left and
right fine, so it's not hardware.

Any ideas how to get that left side running? Thanks in advance!

Checked the balance settings ?

Double click on the loud speaker icon then make sure that all balance
sliders are centered.

Did that work ?

Cheers,
Jerry

Hi Jerry-

Not it - all other sources play out of both sides. I've opened all sorts of
things under "control panel" and looked at all the audio settings I can find.
It seems to be isolated to playback under WM 10 only. I transfered a file out
of WM 10 (that played out of one side only) to Musicmatch Jukebox, and it
played both channels fine. So it's specific to WM 10.

Thanks.

Open WMP10>click View in the toolbar>click Enhancements
Now check the Balance under Graphic Equalizer and also
under SRS WOW Effects for balance settings.

Hi Byte-

All of that was set correctly. However, for no good reason the left chanel
suddenly started working while I was looking at the enhancements/WOW/etc
settings. Didn't change anything - it just started working.

So, problem fixed, but I have no idea why. If it comes back I'll be back
here! Thanks for your help.
