Legality of altering boot logo

Posted: 12-08-2003, 04:15 AM
Hi All,

The company I work for would like to replace the boot
logo. I know how to do this by modifing ntoskrnl.exe but
was curious on any legal issues with do this.

Are we allowed to change this? Having a black screen
(/noguiboot) isn't the nicest experience possible for the
retail consumer our product will be targeting customers.

Cheers,

Anthony Richardson

Anthony, it seems you already know the answer. You should not be modifying
the binaries shipped with the product, but read through the licensing
documents with the product. However, you'd be better served by discussing
your legal questions with your distributor, marketing and/or the legal
departments.

Thanks

From my Googling that is what I suspected. Thanks for the
confirmation. I will be doing exactly as you say, but
thought it prudent to get the view of the group as I knew
it would have come up, but the googling I did wasn't
explicit in it's reponse.

Cheers,
