Let me try this again........XP Peer-To-Peer Networking help

Posted: 11-05-2003, 12:31 AM
I posted this before and got a little bit of help but not enough for me to
solve the problem. Thanks to all of those of you who did offer help, I
guess that I'm a little more of a novice than I thought.

I have two computers running XP Pro. I'm trying to share the second drive
of my second computer so that I can use backup software. So far everything
I have tried has not worked, yet at one time it did work, I was able to get
computer 1 to see the second hard drive of computer 2. I have no idea what
went wrong. I have a sneaking suspicion that a Windows Update toppled the
string of dominoes that I was depending on. I'm really in a bind and I
would be willing to name my first born after the person(s) who helps me.
Thank you for your time and hopefully your help.

I posted a reply to your earlier request for help. It appeared briefly in
this newsgroup and then was removed. I find this puzzling as the reply was
just a straightforward reply: no personal slights, so political
grandstanding etc etc. Apparently it offended someone in microsoft-land and
so it got removed.

Anyway, my original reply suggested you map the shared drive by using the
explicit IP address of the other PC instead of relying on browsing. If you
do this from explorer you should get challenged for a username and password
(for the remote machine) and then the map should succeed.

Have you tried that? Did it work?
