Lexmark x125

I am experiencing much the same problem as several of the users listed here.
My printer does not work correctly when printing from Windows XP, although
it worked excellently under W Me. I downloaded the driver from the Lexmark
site designed for XP to no avail. I have removed the printer and
reinstalled it several times, each with different tweaks, nada... I have
moved my spool file to a separate location that does not have any other
files except my swap file, same problem. That partition has plenty of
space. This printer has been extremely reliable up until now. Any
suggestions? I read a message that referenced success by using a Lexmark
cleanup download, but could not find this on the Lexmark site. Any help
would be appreciated.

Make sure you have the latest version of the Lexmark software -- and
especially that you have installed the Lexmark driver for XP.

Because you have a multi-function device (not just a printer) there's
likely to be some other job running if only to monitor the status of the
fax, scanner, or printer supplies. After you shut everything down and
just before you log off, open the task manager and see what Lexmark
related task is still running. Once you know what it is, you may be
able to shut it down more gracefully than the way that XP shutdown does
it.

Did you install the software BEFORE connecting it to the USB port?

You don't give us anough information to go futher:

Are you USB ports KNOWN to be working OK?
Is this a KNOWN good USB cable?
When was the last time it worked correctly?
Is this an Upgrade or a Clean Installation of XP?

etc etc

I am unable to access the preferences functionality of this printer, fax,
scanner, copier. When I click the properties/preferences button, I get "PDP
Properties MFC Application has encountered a problem and must close". My
computer freezes and I have to reboot. I have uninstalled/re-installed this
printer numerous times with no luck.

make sure you use the Lexmark utility to remove the driver (and a bunch of
other settings) as well. You can find the removal utility on Lexmark's
website.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I went to the bsanders link and followed
steps 1-5 no luck. I then followed steps 15-17 then 8 & 9. I downloaded the
driver for XP from the Lexmark site and and the printer loaded fine but still
I get the same error message. I'll try the Lexmark utility to remove the
drivers next. If that doesn't work any other suggestions other than throwing
the printer out the window??
