Limited or no connectivity

Posted: 02-21-2007, 01:51 PM
Hello

I have recently upgraded to Windows Vista and I was trying to setup my Vista
laptop so that it will connect to my existing wireless network. However it
always comes back with the default windows IP address and not actually
getting an IP address from the DHCP server. I am sure that the router is
working fine since my other pc with XP is connecting with no problem.
Windows is set to obtain IP address automatically and DHCP server on the
router is enabled. Currently using an Edimax AR-7064g+ router with built in
wireless adaptor on my laptop. All the drivers and firmwares is the latest.
If you have any ideas, please reply to this post

The fix that seems to have worked for myself and others is to disable the
tcpip v6 , connecion properties then take the tick out of the tcpip v6 check
box.

I would double check the security settings. Or this search result may help,

sent packets on wirelessCase Study - Sent packets only on a wireless computer and Limited or no connection. Situation: one of our users has a XP computer with wireless connection. ...

There are incompatabilities with Vista and some of the built-in DHCP servers
in routers. As a result, kiss off automatic assignment of network settings
for these routers (wireless or otherwise).

You will have to MANUALLY set your IP info, just like in the old days.
Unfortunately, that also means that you will have to CAN those adapter IP
setting when using true DHCP enabled routers that actually work. When you
run into this, I've found that the alternate IP info does not work at all, it
never gets referenced or determined.

Here is one solution that may work for SOME routers (but it does NOT work
for all of them!)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us

The reality is that as long as you can connect to the router (i.e. local
only connection) then the manual assignment of the IP info should get you
there. And forget about wasting your time trying to use the Alternate
configuration, it doesn't work.

I am currently trying to setup a access point with vista home basic. I am not
trying to connect to the internet but am working on a special project. Now
the project is not important because the access point problem is the issue. I
am using a netgear wgt624 router. I am setting a different ip address in it
other than what was factory. I am setting a static ip in the computer. It
will work sometimes and sometimes it wont. When you reboot the computer is
gives me a limited or no access message and will not fully connect. The
router is configured as a access point and dhcp and firewall is turned off.
ipv6 has been disabled and am still having problems. Please help.

Have the same problem as many and microsoft hotfix didn´t work.

Wondering if some of you that posted the problem a while back, have had it
resolved. If so, how?

There are no IP address in the Internet Protocol Version 6 and 4
(TCP/IPv6)-should there be? If so, what?

Really don´t know, can´t have my brand new laptop connected via cable all
the time! :/

You supply no information.
What problem?????

At the end of your post I have to assume that you are trying to run wireless!

Do you have a wireless router>
Are you at a hotspot????

I have been using Windows Vista with my wireless router since Oct 2007
without a problem. From 2 days ago, I haven't been able to connect to the
internet - I get the message about limited connectivity. There are 2 other
laptops in the house using the same wireless router (with Windows XP) and
they don't have any problems. I've checked the WEP and it is correctly
keyed. I've tried the hotfix from Microsoft's website but it hasn't made a
difference.

Have you "recycled" both the cable modem and the router? (Turning off both
modem and router; then, plugging modem in first, wait for a minute to allow
it to through its cycle; then turning on wireless router, wait for its
self-checking to finish; then rebooting all machines?)

If you have done that to no success, then ignore my suggestion. )

Take care, and I hope you resolve your issue.

Ernie
