Linksys, impossible to access (wireless)

Posted: 11-28-2003, 09:33 PM
Hi,

I have a Linksys wireless access point. I decided to activate WEP. Then I
disactivated it, but the WEP key has stayed memorized in the windows XP
wireless connection, and no matter how much I try to disactivate it in
windows, it continues there in the linksys connection. Which means windows
tries to connect to the access point with a WEP key, and the access point
doesn't have any WEP key activated. Result: I can't go into the access point
and so I can't do anything. Resetting doesn't work, because the problem is
in the operating system, not the access point. How can I complete ERASE the
linksys connection in windows XP so that I can restart from the beginning
without a WEP key? I've searched in REGEDIT but the connection is not there.

I'd appreciate it very much if anyone knows how to completely erase from the
windows XP memory one of the wireless connections.

Thanks in advance.

Cicsso,

Open the properties for your wireless network-- Network Connections in the
Control Panel, right-click on Wireless Network Connection and choose
Properties-- and click the Wireless Network tab. Highlight your network
under Preferred Networks and choose remove. This will remove the saved
settings for that network that includes the wep key. Now on the top pane
where it says available networks, highlight your network name and choose
Configure. Choose the correct settings and accept the settings when you are
done. Click OK on the Wireless Network Connection Properties window. Your
computer should detect your network and automatically connect to your
network. If it doesn't, you may need to verify that it should automatically
connect to the unsecured network, and you should be on. You can then verify
by restarting your computer or unplugging your wireless NIC (if it's a
laptop) and plugging it back in that the new settings are saved.
