Loading XP after Vista on another disk...

Here's where I'm at currently. I already have a Vista system (which I
love), and I wanted to load XP for a little more gaming performance, so I
wanted a dual boot system. Vista is on my C: drive, and I was loading XP on
my F: drive.
Here's how my experience went. I have to install a 3rd party driver to get
the XP installation to recognize my SATA disks, so I have to slap that on a
floppy. If I don't do this, I get the BSOD. So, I did this, and got through
the part of the installation where the files were copied from the CD to the
disk. Then, the installation went to reboot my machine, and the trouble began.
I got a message that the installation couldn't read my disk, and couldn't
seem to get around that.
Now when I boot, I believe what I see is the XP boot loader, and it looks
something like this:
Please select the configuration to boot:
Windows XP
Unknown operating system on drive C:
I only have like 3 seconds to choose, or it picks the top one. If I pick
Windows XP, I get the error that I can't read the disk. If I pick the second
one, I go to what I believe is the Windows Vista Boot loader:
Please select the configuration to boot:
Windows Vista
Unknown operating system on drive C:
If I pick Vista, I boot like my PC used to. If I pick unknown, I get the XP
read error again.
So, what I'd like to do first is get my PC back to where it was initially -
get that XP bootloader off my system somehow. After that I might try to load
XP dual-boot again.
Any tips on resolving this?
Thanks,
Chris
