loading xp onto existing windows 98

trying to download,i keep putting the cd in but keep
getting a message saying that "xp reqs newer windows
system components not detected on computer

also says

to install office, set up must include minimum reqt of
functionability ,including

core system and data access components

can anyone help please

To use XP Office, it will be necessary to install the XP operating system..

While it the 98 desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup screen
appears, select "Check System Compatibility," the report it generates may
give a clue as to the problems you are having and what you need to fix in
order to install XP.
