| I am on deployment with my laptop that has windows vista. I bought the laptop while home on 2 week leave and have not had it long. Upon buying the computer, I reset the administrator password, so there was not one. Upon logging in, I always hit enter w/o entering anything and get into windows. I shut down the computer last night and when I restarted this morning, I discovered that windows is acting like I have a logon password. I do not. I can not log into windows. When entering safe mode, I reach the same problem: I am brought to the windows logon page, and can not get in as I get the error stating "that is an incorrect password" or similar. I would welcome any help or advice, as re-installing windows is not a pleasant thought. I do not have access to blank cd's at my current location in order to make the boot cd in order to reset a password, which is why i have not done so yet. | Guest

the password to none. Do you remember what that password was ? If yo do, try to enter that one when prompted. Why you want an admin.accoun w/o password is beyond me. You have to have some numbers or words tha you will never forget -- t-4-2 | Guest

| No, since I set the logon requirement to "no password required upon logon", i do NOT remember the password...as there was NO PASSWORD PERIOD. Not even before I set the logon requirement. This laptop, again, was VERY recently bought in a short amount of time. Although i said I was "home", i was NOT HOME, but 'home in the US' for a few days. I did not turn on my new computer until I returned to my current location. At my current location I do not have access to cd's to make a boot cd. SO, I REMOVED THE REQUIREMENT FOR A LOGON PASSWORD UNTIL SUCH TIME AS I AM NEAR A PLACE THAT I CAN BUY BLANK CDS. Yes, t-4-2, i do realize that under normal circumstances, I would and DO have logon passwords required....as i have set on my desktops back home. Please don't post if all you will do is be sarcastic and not help. If you don't know a way, then don't respond. What has happened is a windows update installed incorrectly on my new laptop this last weekend, and reset windows logon requirements that i previously set. I was looking to see, before i completely re-installed windows, if there was some other way to restore to an earlier point. I was not able to with F8 or F12 commands on startup to bypass the need to enter a logon password-which had never been set to begin with, and the need for such was set to "no password required upon logon". wrote in my last post was never intended to be sarcastic by any stretch of imagination. The reason of my asking if you remembered the password you removed was that perhaps the update had reverted things back to previous arrangements. Maybe then the old password would still be good. That was my line of thought. Should have explained my rationale to avoid the misunderstanding. I'm on to something that might help. I'll test it first, if it's good, I'll let you know. Again I'm sorry. -- t-4-2 | Guest

will show you how to enable the Real Built-in Administrator in Safe Mode. Using the real built-in admin. to create a password so you can log in when you go back to normal mode. You'll have to read through both tutorials. Good luck. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/123496-safe-mode.html -- t-4-2 | Guest

| t-4-2: Thank you for the link, and I do appreciate the help. I have forwarded the link in an email to myself so i can have it for future reference should a windows update install improperly again and result in this problem. I have just finished re-installing windows Vista in order to regain access and use my computer. I was only trying to keep from losing my pictures and videos that I transferred from 3 - 8gb thumbdrives to the new computer. This computer was meant as a temporary storage until I returned home again in 6 months, and could back them up. No major harm was done and the problem was resolved, although it was annoying to have to reinstall and lose a few months of pictures. Once I have access to a place where i can buy some blank cd's, you can rest assured that I will be backing up any future pictures onto those cd's, as well as creating a boot cd, and re-instating the requirement for a password upon windows logon. | Guest
