Log on fails, "Domain does not exist," but I didn't specify a domain

I've added support to an image for domain support. Now I
can't log on any more. "The specified domain does not
exist or cannot be contacted." I didn't specify a default
domain. I did specify a machine name and workgroup name.
What can be wrong here?

Regards.

Ha! Never fails. As soon as you ask for help, you find
the answer. FBA fails to join the workgroup. The name
was too long.
