Logical drive cannot be seen in XP, but can with 98 Boot disk.

My PC hung while I was playing a game. When I rebooted,
Windows XP could not recognize my E: drive, (C:, D:, E:
are all on one hard disk). When I booted using a window
98 disk, I was able to see everything on that drive in
8.3 format. I tried using the Windows XP recovery
console to view the drive but all I get is "an error
occurred during directory enumeration".

Is there a way to recover from this? Can I get the full
names back using the Window 98 disk? Even if I have to
copy the files off, reformat and copy them back.
Finally, what causes this, because this is the second
time this occurred.

Logical drive cannot be seen in XP, but can with 98 Boot disk.
