Logical drives disappeared

Twice in the past two months two of the three logical
drives (D && E) on my IDE disk have disappeared. I have
antivirus software installed and my computer is behind a
firewall so I don't suspect a virus.

I found a couple of event 9's in my system event log for
device atapi\ide\ideport1.

Does anyone know what might be going on?
