I wanted to post this everywhere, since it was a pain of a problem to find,
and I wanted to save others the same headache.
My company uses the MIDI capabilities of the built-in WinXP USB audio driver
to do firmware updates of our product over USB.
I purchased a Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe, and after I installed
the Logitech Software/Drivers, our firmware update utility could no longer
communicate with our hardware via the built-in USB Audio Driver.
Although our product appears as a "USB Audio Device" and the various
"Properties" dialogs all report that the device is installed and working
properly, the MIDI ports of our hardware are not available in the
Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices-> AUDIO tab-> MIDI music playback
default device drop-down.
As soon as the logitech drivers are uninstalled, our hardwares MIDI ports
magically appear in this drop-down.
I confirmed that
the AudioTrak MIDIMate (
www.audiotrak.org), which also relys on the
built-in USB Audio Driver, has the same issue with the Logitech drivers.
Not sure if its a Windows problem or a Logitech problem or both, so I
am posting here as well as to Logitech support.
I am running WinXP SP2, full updated as of 7/28/06
Problem occurs on both my IBM/Lenova z60m and a P4 Desktop,
both with intel USB chipsets.
Logitech Software 8.47.0000 and 8.4.8 exhibit the problem.
