looks like xp hardware NG don't know a lot about mbps's...

....
I seem to have "upgraded" my Orange broadband to 8mbits, and apparantly I'm
going to receive an Orange Livebox in the post.
Strange, this "upgrading" - seeing as they were charging me £22.99 a month
for something called Option 2 / 1mbps / 6gb dl cap (that they never
enforced, I understand), and now after "upgrading" I get 8mbps and unlimited
downloads and only have to pay £19.99 a month !
I understand that the Livebox is a adsl/router with wireless ? ...great -
seeing as I've just got my Linksys WAG354G and a Wireless-G PCI Adapter
WMP54G in Dads' PC sorted out. My router is a version 1.0 so I don't think
it's an ADSL/" whatever ADSL/2 is ?

Anyway, after hunting with Google I can't seem to find much on the
specification of this "Livebox," does anyone know if it's got the small
reverse-SMA antenna connector on it like my Linksys ?
Seeing as I was on 1mbps, how will the 8mbps and the Livebox compare speed
/ performance wise in XP ?
i.e. I think this Livebox thing connects to my PC with a RJ45/lan lead,
like my Linksys, so will there be any improvement indownload speeds seeing
as it's sending to a 10/100 ethernet port ? ...I think Dad's PC's Linksys
WMP54G alwasy connects at 54mbps and signal strength is always "Excellent,"
after spending a fortune on an antenna that I think should have been
included with the thing !
Anyone up on all these speed ratings - I think it lost me ages ago !

any thoughts muchly appreciated.

regards, Richard
