Default loss of microsoft word program

After recovering my pc to the factory settings more than
once and installing a new hard drive my microsoft words
(or works) which ever one comes with the windowsxp home
edition program is lost as is an upgraded outlook express
program. I have contacted Compaq about this and they did
not have any sucess in recovering it to my pc. Any help
in this would be appreciated. I cannot find the original
cds for the program.

Anne;
Neither one of those come with Windows XP Home or Pro.
In fact neither have ever been a part of any operating system.
Check your CDs very carefully.
Otherwise call Compaq back and get a tech knowledgeable in their
products.

MS Word and Works do not come with Windows XP Home Edition, XP Pro or any
other operating system that Microsoft has ever released.

If this came with you computer it was provided by the manufacturer. If it
wasn't a part of their restore process it must have been included with the
original CDs. These are provided by the OEM, in your case Compaq and they
are responsible for their replacement.

There is no alternative on this other purchasing the Works Suite or Word at
retail.

OEM software is the responsibility of the manufacturer. Only they know what
they provided with your system. Microsoft, didn't provide the software and
has no way of knowing what was provided with your system.
