I am running Vista Home Premium on an Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM
machine. For some reason I keep losing my audio each time the system goes
into sleep mode. The audio recovers if I reboot the system. Is there some
way to prevent this from happening, or alternately is there some way to
recover the audio without rebooting?

Check the following KB article for a fix.

A high definition audio device may no longer work after you resume Windows
Vista from hibernation or from sleep.
Resolves a problem where a high definition audio (HDA) device is no longer
working after you resume a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from
hibernation. The device may be a sound device or a modem.

Thanks for the response. I downloaded the Vista update but could not
install it. A message informs me that the update does not apply to my
system. I then realized that I do not have an HDA device. I simply lose my
audio when my system awakens from "sleep." Do you have any other ideas or
suggestions?

Does this apply when the computer is shut down as well? I'm having the same
problem, but only when I shut my PC down for a while. Instead, I have to
reinstall the drivers and reboot. Simply rebooting doesnt work for me.

Does this apply for when I start up my PC from shut down? I lose sound almost
every time my PC has been shut down for a bit.

To tell you the truth, I have never heard of this happening before?

You might want to check for an updated driver for the sound card.

These are the most updated drivers availible unfortunatly.

In that case, the only thing I can recommend is that you delete the sound
device from the Device Manager, reboot and let Vista reinstall the device.
Wait to see if this fixes the problem before updating the driver.
