LSASS.EXE ERROR

Posted: 07-13-2003, 04:46 AM
During startup I get a error about lsass.exe, the only
choice I get is to hit okay. Then my system shuts off, I
can't restart using safe mode or reinstalling windows from
the CD.

LSASS.EXE Error

Can someone offer some guidance on how to resolve this
error short of reloading the OS?

This is a new problem I've come across in Windows XP Home
Edition. On bootup the boot screen comes up but doesn't
finish and ends up displaying a small error window that
says this:

lsass.exe - unable to locate component
--------------------------------------

This application failed to start because

[ OK ]

and then it stops there. The error window is too small to
display the rest of the text I'm guessing, so I'm not
exactly sure what application it was trying to find as
part of its boot up. If you click OK or the close button
the computer just restarts and loops back to the same
error message. Neither safe mode nor anything else will
allow me to boot the machine up. The PC came with XP Home
Edition already loaded and no CDs. So I downloaded the
setup diskettes and ran them to get into the Recovery
Console. I'm not sure which file I need to replace or
where to get it from though. Can anyone give me a little
more information on how to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!!!

lsass.exe error

does anyone know what causes the lsass.exe error? I just installed xp pro and now it boots and hits that error and than reboots itself over and over again. I've tried to go through recover mode booting from the xp cd but for some reason it keeps rejecting the admin's password. Anyone pointing me to the right direction will be appreciated.

LSASS.EXE error

I am receiving a error in c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe
with a status code of -1073741819 on a WinXP Pro
workstation. I searched Microsoft but could only find
problems and fixes for win2000 and these were
patches/hotfixes. Of course I am not going to try any of
these on an XP machine.

Since MS is no help could someone enlighten me on this
problem.

I saw a lot of this question on the newsgroup in June
while looking for info on something else, but I can't
remember the catagories they were in.

FYI, while you're waiting for someone to answer you, you
can use the search feature (down by the "post new"
and "post reply" to see responses to other people asking
the same question.

Hi Will,

It sounds like a case of the Sasser worm:

lsass.exe error

Everytime I connect to the internet on my laptop, it says
that the LSA Shell has an error and must close. Then the
NT SYSTEM gives me sixty seconds in a window before the
computer restarts. This window says "The system process
lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -
1073741819. The system will now shut down and restart."

Is this fixable? I just rebooted my laptop from scratch,
also. Thank you to everyone.

Because of your nonexistent Security practices, you have allowed yourself to
become infected with one or more variants of the SASSER worm. The real
problem here is that the methods to prevent infection are well known and
have been around for a long time, yet you have chosen to connect to the
internet unprotected.

When you get the error, click on Start>Run and type in "Shutdown -a"
(without the quotes). Then enable the firewall of your choice (either
windows own firewall, or something like ZoneAlarm). Next, install a
reputable Antivirus program. One of the very best is Norton Antivirus 2004.
If you are too cheap or too lazy to install an antivirus suite and KEEP IT
UPDATED, then you should not own a computer. After installing the AV and
running it, visit the Windows update site and download ALL of the critical
patches for your version of Windows.

The real issue is that you must do ALL of the above. You must keep you
antivirus and OS updated. By not doing so, you are a threat to everyone
else on the internet, and an even bigger threat to those whose email address
you have in your address book. I would wager that your machine is most
likely infested with spyware, malware, worms, trojans and viruses.

Until you take the steps necessary to become a responsible "netizen",
please do not connect to the internet again.

Bobby
