Lsass.exe error

through lsass.exe and services.exe errors. I have
determined that the msvcr.dll file was inadvertently
changed to an older version which now will not let me
entirely boot up before the error occurs. My biggest
problem is that I purchased a Sony machine with the OEM of
XP, and although this system came with a recovery cd, the
only option it gives me is to format, which obviously I do
not want to do unless it is my last resort. Are there any
other options available to get back on track?? Thank you
