how do you find the mac number? every time I find it, it says unavailable.
Maybe I am not looking inthe right place. So where do I find it? and what
if it says unavailable?

Go to command prompt (Windows key + R, type cmd, enter) and type
"IPCONFIG /ALL" without quotes. That will give you your MAC address.

Dion,
IPCONFIG shows the MAC as the "Physical Address".

Or you could type 'getmac' in the command prompt. Both work, but 'getmac'
doesn't return all the other ip information. A bit shorter if all you want
is the mac address.
