Mac / PC Compatibility

Daughter wants a new Mac lap top.
One concern is file sharing with Windows machines.
Seems she had that problem with her last Mac.
Where do you suggest she look for background?

Point her to MacWindows.com.

And since I do not have any Windows machines here to network to, I don't
have any first hand experience for you. But if her earlier laptop was
an older OS than 10, then she will find networking with Windows a whole
lot different that what she remembers.

Which will be the server?
I regularly mount windows shares onto the Mac 10.2
10.3 is even better - I gather

What version of windows are you running - if Win2K or XP then there should
be no problem.

She's doing consulting and - as I understand it - will be visiting a
number of different organizations. Does this help define her concerns?

In that case I guess the file sharing will be the other way round - i.e.
allowing other machines to access her folders on the mac.

Of the times I've tried it - it works fine.

That's good to know.
I'll pass it on and hope it helps make choosing a Mac easer.
