Making Column View 'stick'

Posted: 09-02-2004, 04:04 PM
I'm running OS 10.3.5 and mostly it's been pretty good. One irritation,
however:

Finder Preferences has an option on the General page--
[x] Open new windows in column view.

I've got it selected-- but it doesn't seem to work. On my system, new
Finder windows mostly open up in Icon view, sometimes in List view,
rarely in column view.

I've tried trashing the Preference file:

(user)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

without any improvement.

Anyone else having this problem? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Common "issue"...not to worry. Open a finder window, select column
view and immediately close the window. Next time you open this window
it will open in column view. Don't know why selecting column view in
the finder prefs does not universally effect all finder windows but
the fact is, it doesn't.

OK... that seems to work (at least so far). As well, my Finder
Preferences claims that new Finder windows will open up to my Home
folder-- and they don't; they open to the Macintosh HD root.

Switching to Home then shutting the window doesn't set it to re-open
there.

But one out of two isn't bad!

Thanks.

I have mine set to open to a second HDD called "DATA" It will, but
only if I use command-n to invoke the window.

One out of two is the best I've ever seen
