Mandrake/Mandriva and a Belkin DSL Router

Posted: 11-24-2005, 03:40 PM
Since MD 10.1 I have had trouble with my Belkin DSL router. During the
boot up the router's 4 lights ( indicating a nic cable is plugged in )
come on for about 1 second and the router "messes up" and I lose my DSL
connection through the router. This is not the router from the phone
company but one I use for my network. The only way to fix this is to
unplug the router to restart it and it works fine untill the next
computer restart. I have tried using static ip and DHCP with out
success. The router is the DHCP server. The newest firmware updates for
the router are installed, the year 2002 is the newest. What am I doing
wrong? I have looked to see if my OS wants to be the server but I can't
see any indication it is . Thanks, Larry

You're not clear about the kind of router you have. Is it a DSL
modem/router, or a sperate router that you have plugged into the dsl
modem? A Belkin model number would help so people can understand what's
going on. Asumming this is a stand alone router that plugs into the dsl
modem and which you plug into the nic of the pc, I'd say it's just a
screwed up router from what you describe.and I'd replace it. I assume you
leave both the router and dsl modem on all the time. At a minimum, you
should leave the DSL modem on all the time. Otherwise, it has to aquire a
new link very time you turn it on. This will take longer than a normal PC
bootup causing the pc to think there isn't (and there isn't yet) a network
connection.

It's not the DSL router ,but one I have plugged in to the DSL router.
The DSL box is never affected only the router I have plugged into it
for my network. It's a Belkin F5D5230-4 4 port router. Yes, both are
left on all the time. I hate to mention, but it works fine on that
other OS. Where would I look to see if MD2006 is trying to act as a
server? Thanks, Larry

Still not clear, but I assume you mean the DLS router is plugged into the
DSL modem. Since it works in win I assume, I would guess you have
hotplugging turned on in the internet connection setup. Check that. It
does what you describe. Uncheck it and restart network.

I bought a new D-Link router yesterday and haven't had any problems
since. I had tried every configuration without success. Thanks, Larry
