Mandriva 2006 problems!

Posted: 11-20-2005, 10:45 PM
Having some problems on two systems..

One computer pauses for almost 2 minutes during bootup on "checking for
new hardware" which doesn't overly bother me as the system rarely if ever
reboots..

and both are unable to complete online updates of the "bug fixes".. It's
the online update part that is really cheesing me off.. Any ideas??

Go into Mandrake Control Center -> System.. Scroll down to harddrake
and uncheck the 'start at boot' box.

There's no point scanning for new hardware at every boot if you've
never added new hardware.. (Remember to turn this back on if you DO
add new hardware).

"Unable to complete" ?? That doesn't say much :) What *exactly* happens ?

Have you configured your update sources ? If you have done this, then try
another mirror. The one you've selected could be down.

essentially when I select the "bugfix updates" it downloads the following
packages

drakxtools, drakxtools-bakend, dtakxtools-newt, harddrake and
hardrake-ui, then the package installation window goes blank,
the rpmdrake window stays visible and it just hangs there until
I kill the process..

Security updates all work, normal updates work... can get all my rpm's
from easyurmpi etc..etc..

Just can't do any bug fix updates on either system...

In a terminal, su to root, and try running
urpmi.update -a
urpmi --auto-select

and watch for errors.

Glad you found the problem.

Just curious, and for lurkers/future searchers, what was the problem/fix?

I can't recall exactly what the error was, it would download the file but
then reported some error with the mirror, as soon as I changed the
mirrors on both installs it solved it...
