Why bother? Just pres Windows Key + L to lock the PC and the screen saver will cone on at its timeout. Is security your issue ? If so then Windows Key + L is the way forward. -- Mike Brannigan | Guest

| Thanks, Mike. Security is partly it and Windows+L will do that. Prolonging my screen's life is another concern, and I guess I got used to invoking the OSA screen saver executable that used to be part of MS Office. It's my understanding that there's .scr file that can be invoked to start the screen saver, I just don't know its name, which utility it runs with and how to invoke it and assign a key combination to it. Thanks "Mike Brannigan" wrote: Quote:

| WJB All of the screen savers are locate din the C:\Windows\System32 folder. They have the .scr file extension. Go there in Windows Explorer and double click any of these files to start that screen saver and see which one you want to use. When you find it, right click that file and save as a shortcut to the desktop. You can then place this shortcut wherever you wish, right click the shortcut and give it a unique keyboard shortcut. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "WJB" <WJB@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:18F51151-0483-4A40-A45C-6A2F9168568E@microsoft.com... | Hi Ronnie, I've discovered this thread that is also relevant to me. I've attempted to double-click any .scr file but the file association got changed to "AutoCAD script" and hence the file opens in a text editor. How does one re-associate .scr file types to be screensavers? -- Craig Cullum, AMTELCO "Ronnie Vernon MVP" wrote: Quote:

| Follow-up to those still paying attention: I was directed elsewhere to this: http://www.winhelponline.com/article...ows-Vista.html It worked! -- Craig Cullum, AMTELCO | Guest
