| I've just got a new vista pc and I'm trying to put software on it as you would expect. But it's not really cooperating. I think it's a UAC thing. It sounds like a good idea and while I'm plenty competent enough to have run my own and company PCs for years, I'm prepared to be treated like a child by an "artificial" intellegence for a quiet life, if it knows when to take it's medicine. But there, Anything and Everything autorunning from DVD or even chosen through an interface to install won't ! autorun puts up the beginning screen (for game say) I press install and it just peters out! but the vast majority setups claim directory invalid. which is no surprise. already spent 2 hours wondering why many directorys that are there, aren't there lol. I preferred everything being treated like admin, then at least I could run programs. Even software on CDs that came from supplier with machine today! With a few small things I dwnldd from the net I could install them (not from the download directory - invalid) but after copying them to programfiles they work fine. I'm not doing that with every dvd. Less of this petering out business They don't give an error or anything. Just stop running. And I can't tell how many are hanging because I can't see the tasklist. run that from the command line and it comes up then disappears into the distance like a fart in a typhoon! had to download and install from programfiles processexplorer. | first thing I usually try is to right click and click on Run as Administrator. of course for reasonably known ok programs. mikeyhsd@comcast.net "gruntle me now!" <gruntle me now!@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:579601D2-F859-4418-8002-8A65A3A50F99@microsoft.com...
