Mapping homedrives on Windows XP Embedded thin client?

Posted: 07-02-2004, 09:24 AM
Hi!

We have recently bought a thin client with Windows XP embedded to try its capabilities. I think it has very good surfing capabilities with its local web browser, but i have one question.

When using the local web browser the users sometimes need to save .pdf files or other files from the internet to their home catalogs. But the usual login script doesnt work. Their homecatalogs doesnt get mapped to h:

Even if i try to execute the .bat script localy the mapping fails. Why? The only drive i can see in the explorer is the ramdrive which is z:

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Most thankful for any suggestion.

Hi Peter,

I'm afraid that you will have to contact the manufacturer of your thin client and ask them about your XPe functionality, and what
can be done. All XPe builds are device manufacturer dependent.

Best regards,

hi peter,

Far as my understanding of thinclient goes, you wont be able to map
the drive. However it again depends on the features that has come out
in the thinclient release .. The z: is ofcourse a temporary drive and
for sure you can save the pdf or other files to the c drive .It
shouldnt be of any problem.
What kind of message is it showing ?

Regards,
Kesavan

I doesn´t show any error message at all. The homedrive H: wont get mapped to their homedrives. The strange thing is that the following command works....

net use lpt2: \\printer\laser-5000

BUT

The following commands doesn´t work:

net use h: /home
net use k: \\mainserver\apps
net use l: \\file\data

No error message or anything....they just wont get mapped.

/Peter

XP Embedded tester,

Check if your image configuration includes "Network Command Shell Interface
Context" component.
