maxblast 3 and xp home

Posted: 09-16-2003, 02:07 PM
Hi! I just bought a maxtor oem hard drive, no documentation or software.
Now I have download maxtors maxblast 3 software and created a bootable
floppy with it. Can I burn these files to a cdr as is to make a bootable
cd. I ask because according to the website I will be booting from the
floppy and then I have to follow instructions to install my os before
exiting maxblast. but I assume this means that I will have to reboot from
the cdrom, but that will not be the primary boot device until I set it
later.
Thanks

You do not need to use the Maxblast utility at all.
Windows XP is fully capable of partitioning and formatting the drive,
in fact it is normally best to let Windows XP do it all.

Clean Installation
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.

Connect the new hard drive, restart the computer and set the boot order so
that the CD-Rom is listed before the hard drive, pop the XP CD into the
CD-Rom and press a key when prompted. Select the option to Setup Windows XP
and follow the on screen instructions to partition and format.
