Maxtor 160gig hard drive in XP

Posted: 07-21-2003, 05:29 PM
I am trying to install the new Maxtor 160gig hard drive
on my AMD-K6 3D Processor 501MHZ 320MB of Ram with
Windows XP Professional version 2020 service pack 1 and I
am getting the following message (one of the file drivers
installed for the devise is invalid). If some one could
please help me out as I have been trying to fix this for
a few days now. Error code 28

Just a guess. I have a MAXTOR 120 GB and it installed
OK. Somewhere I recall that the maximum size is 132GB. It
may be in your MAXTOR documents. Check that and possibly
their web page.

Hi, Paul.

Most likely you need to update your BIOS for "big drives" - 48-bit
addressing - for any drive larger than about 137 GB. See these two
references to learn about this development:

For more, just ask Google about "big drives".
