McAfee, How to Clean Off, Install NOD32

Posted: 03-09-2007, 04:27 PM
Hello, I have a brand new Dell E1505 laptop that came with Vista HP32.
Unfortunately it also came with a bunch of cr@p that I want to get rid
off. The McAfee suite is one thing. It bombs periodically, and I've
never liked it. I'd rather install NOD32, which has a much smaller
footprint. It's been so long I've worked with McAfee, however, I don't
recall if it's as difficult to get rid of all traces as Norton. Can
anyone advise me please?

Also, has anyone had experience with SpySweeper on Vista? I'm using it
on WinXP Pro SP2 w/o complaint.

Thx and Regards,

Margaret

You can uninstall McAfee using Programs and Features in Control Panel. I
would then use the cleanup tool available here -
http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=71943 Since Vista has Windows
Defender it might be better from a performance perspective to not install
another active spyware scanner such as Spysweeper.

Or, alternatively, turn off Defender which is a clunky and intrusive
program.

SpySweeper works perfectly under Vista, as does Grisoft AVG, a free
anti-virus program that, among other features, offers automatic daily
updates.

Wow, now that Mcafee is gone, my machine's a whole lot speedier.
Imagine that! ;-)

Thx and Regards,

Thx. I've been using SpySweeper on my main XP machine and have been
very happy with it.

Margaret
