| btimore, this sounds like a rather intriguing situation. Can you tell me which log files your looking at in particular. It seems I have one msi popping up like this but I'd like to check to see if there are any others that have gone un-noticed and see if I can track back the situation. I really am hoping I am not running into the same wall you are, sorry, but it would sure be nice to hear any kind of information regarding such activities. | Hi Pretentious, I speak about the Windows Event Log - Application Log (Right-click My Computer then Manage). I have this situation on two Dell computers I recently bought, Vista French Edition. After Uninstalling McAfee, each time I start the computer, I can see in the Event Log many events number 1033, 1035 and 11708. They are information events, and the computer seems to work ok. These events are all related to MsiInstaller and there is at least one event for each Software installed in the computer; actually about 90 events. It is like if Windows wants to start each .msi package it finds ! Event 1035 says (trnslated from French) : Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name : XXXX. Product version : YYYY. Product Language : 1033. Success of the reconfiguration or Error Status : 0. Where XXXX is the name of the product (for example : OutlookAddinSetup, Dell Quickset, Roxio Creator Audio...) There is no need for this products reconfigurations !!! I rebuilt completely one of the computers with the Dell system disk without installing McAfee and I do not have these events. I hope you can understand my English, as I am French ! | btimore, your English is just fine. I have one program that seems to get re-installed every time Windows Vista reboots and am now taking a look at the log events to see what they have to say. I haven't found exactly the same situation you're describing but will keep digging. Should you run across an answer it would be great to have it posted here. Cheers. | I solved my problem today ! I used the Dell restore function to get my computer back to the state Dell gave it to me. I started it without any Internet connection to see if McAfee was there; it was. I then did a shutdown, started it in Safe mode and uninstalled McAfee. I started it in normal mode and the MsiInstaller messages did not show in the Windows events log. I did different Windows update and software installation which required a computer restart without any strange MsiInstaller events in the Log. So I think the computer is Ok. Note 1 : When I start the computer, it tells me that there is no anti-virus software installed; so the problem at the beginning of this thread is also solved ! Note 2 : That was on my Dell Laptop. I wanted to do the same thing on my other Dell computer (Desktop), but the Dell restore procedure did never work and I had to reinstall Vista manually. Hope that helps ![]() BTimore -- btimore ------------------------------------------------------------------------ btimore's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=32375 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=807382 http://forums.techarena.in | Guest

| Thanks Malke! I did have to use part 2 of your fix and it worked perfectly! No more McAfee remnants! I wish the MS/Vista forum would post this fix. Thanks again. -- Gary Goldblum ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gary Goldblum's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=38474 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=807382 http://forums.techarena.in | Guest
