Media Center controls' fade out timing?

Exactly how much time does it take the controls overlay (play, caption and
back buttons) to disappear after you have moved your mouse in video or DVD
mode? When I have accidentally caused them to appear, they won't fade out
until I go back and return, so I just want to know if I they eventually
disappear and I'm just too impatient, or if it's a bug... Thanks in advance.
