If you intend to use Windows XP Media Center Edition as your OS then you
will need to purchase a Media Center PC from one of the OEMs as we do not
make Windows XP Media Center Edition available as a self install retail
product.

You will be running Windows XP and not Windows Media Center. Microsoft only
sells the Media Center Edition to OEM's. As far as the hardware I would
start with a 120GB or larger hard drive, a 256MB 3D AGP graphics card with
TV out, a high-end sound card that has at least 5.1 Dolby Surround
capability, speakers to match the sound card, the fastest processor money
can buy and 1.0GB of RAM. Make sure the motherboard has at least 4 and
preferably 8 USB 2.0 ports, at least 2 and better still 4 firewire ports.
Get a case with at least a 400 watt power supply, 600 would be better, and
enough bays for future expansion. You may find yourself adding another hard
drive sooner rather than later. Get a DVD drive and a DVD/CD burner. That
should get you started!
