Memory could not be read.

I have two computers in my family both with XP and both
are having the same problem. I have searched the
Microsoft Knowledge Base with no results so I am hoping
for help here. About half of the programs or applications
that we use, mainly Microsoft apps, get the following
error message every time the program/application is closed
or exited.

THE INSTRUCTION AT "0x00004748" REFERENCED MEMORY
AT "0x00004748". THE MEMORY COULD NOT BE "READ".

The error message is always the same and even the memory
address is the same on both computers. I just click OK on
the error window and the program closes but this is a real
nusiance. Can anyone help?
