Memory Slot Reader Not Reading Card (Disabled?)

that has always worked into the slot but it just sounds off a few blips to
acknowledge i put it in but it cannot be accessed for downloading. Before
it would have a small icon for safely remove, a window would come up giving
me a choice of several programs that could be used, and it would show up in
the 'my computer' window like cds and dvds do. Now I cannot do anything
with it.
A week ago the safely remove feature was not stopping the reading
of the card so i some how disabled it or something so i wouldnt scramble the
card and i still have not even come close to figuring out how to enable or
get the memory reader working again... I definately need help! :P
