Message notification window when printing

Posted: 08-31-2005, 10:39 PM
I am running Windows XP Pro and whenever I print a docuemnt, regardless of
the application, a small dialog window will open in the lower right hand
corner of the desktop informing me that a document has been sent to the
printer. Most of the time this is no problem but I cannot do anything else
while that window is open and I have to touch it to get it to close. Is
there anything that I can do to supress this window from opening???

The dialog box you see is just an info box, is pretty annoying though had it
set myself for a while. To stop this from appearing if you go into control
panel. Then double click faxes and printers icon.

Then when the window opens click "File" on the toolbar at the top then click
"server properties".

When the server properties window opens click the advanced tab and uncheck
the boxes that say:

"show informational notifications for local printers"
and
"show informational notifications for network printers"

Should solve your problem

I have some remote printers and would like to have this feature work. I have
enabled these button, but I can't get the printer queue icon to pop up in the
system tray or the notification bubbles.
I have xp professional with xpsp2 loaded. My print server version
ntprint.dll and printui.dll are version 5.1.2600.2180.
XPSP SP2 rtm 040803-2158 is the sp2 version.
My other computer worked and it had version 5.1.2600.0 printui.dll.
Did this get broken in SP2?

Hi Richard, I seem to be having the same issue with one user. Let me know if
you ever got it resolved. I go to Start, Settings, Printers, File, Server
Properties,Advanced,, and click the "Show informational notifications for
network printers" to get it to work. I have one user whom this is not
working for. Any ideas?
