Microphone not working

Posted: 08-30-2003, 08:35 PM
I cannot record from a source outside my PC with a
microphone. The microphone is in the PC Mic Jack.
Sound Recorder does not record with a microphone.
However, I can record using a microphone from my PC
speakers to a tape deck.
I could find no answers in Windows XP Help & Support.
Thank you for any suggestions & feedback!
Peace, Marc

Did you uncheck the mute for the mic in both places...?

>Rightclick volume icon (bottom righthand corner of

Microphone slider up and make sure the "Mute" box is not
checked.

I am using a headset and a seperate Microphone. My mic isn't working but
when i run the test on it and play a song through media player it lights up
the test bar from the music not from the microphone. They are both plugged
into the right jacks and my headphones are working perfectly. So what is the
deal why is my mic messed up?

Double-click the Volume icon in the System Tray (bottom right).
Then choose Options | Properties, and
check (radio button) Adjust_volume_for Recording,
make sure that Microphone is ticked in the list, then
press OK, and
make sure that the Microphone slider is Selected (check box) and set above
zero level.

Note that the check boxes read "Select" when playing back, and "Mute" when
recording.

Have you tried to set the mic boost in the advanced box on microphone level
in the volume control window?

Also, UNcheck the MUTE on microphone level in volume control (why MUTE?).
