Default Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

This biometric device does not work in Windows Vista.
The driver from DigitalPersona, Inc is automatically installed by Vista and
the reader can be viewed in the device manager.
But it does not light on and the installation of the software cancels
because it only matches with Windows XPSP2.
Does somebody know if and when MS will upgrade this device ?
Thanks

All the drivers and stuff will be sorted out by the time RTM happens. Don't
worry - the Fingerprint Reader has been quite a hit for Microsoft - they're
not going to ditch a security product for a secure OS now are they? p

I haven't had any luck. I installed the drivers, but I can't get software
to install.

Default Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Hello,
Would anyone happen to know why one would get a Catastrophic Failure when
trying to register a fingerprint.
I just bought the device and downloaded the driver and applications from the
Windows website. Did everything by the book, but the Fingerprint Registration
Wizard application does not open, just comes up whit the Catastrophic Failure.

If anyone has an ideas, or knows of the problem and how to fix it can you
let me know.
Thanks

YES I DO finally something i have XP in. it's quite simple you need to put
all the programs that is about fingerprinter reader, into the data
prevention...... list made sure you select "turn on dep for all programs and
services except for those i select , then go to the fingerprint reader
program location and put as many as you can in the list

I suspect that is DEP (Data Execution Prevention). For my system I had to
add several items to the DEP exception list.

DPConsol Module
DpFpLogonManager Module
DPHOST Module
DPPRAgnt Module
DPTunDll Module
DPWinLct Module
Export Import Utility

I suspect that not all of them are needed but I was not up to change/test
for som many possibilities.

Right Click Computer
Properties
Advanced System Settings
Advanced Tab
Performance Setting button
Data Execution Prevention Tab
The button ofr Turn on DEP shout be set
Click ADD button
Browse to
C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin
Add each of the programs (not the directories), only lets you do one at a
time.

This failure has been around long enough that Microsoft should have it fixed
by now but they seem to be asleep on this one.
