Microsoft XP activation problems

(and activated it), but then went to office xp and gave
the disk to my brother. Now he can't use it b/c it says
it's already been activated. any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Windows XP is an operating system.Office XP is an office package.
You do not change from one to the other.
If you still have Windows XP installed on the computer, your brother
can not install the same Windows XP on his computer.
The same goes for Office XP.
If you want Windows XP on two computers, you need to buy two copies.
This is the way it has always been with all consumer Microsoft OSs.

I don't have it on my computer anymore. Sorry, turns outit was windows home on mine and the one for my brother was
windows professional-sorry about that, I'm really not good
at computer stuff. All I know is that my dad installed the
original one on mine again, and tried to install the other
one on my brothers. I still have all the paperwork for my
brothers. Is there a way to show that I'm not using it on
mine and that it's only being used on my brothers? we're
not trying to pirate it or anything.

If Windows XP Pro is an upgrade, Windows XP Home is still tied to thecomputer as the upgrade qualifier.
If Windows XP Pro is the full version, Home can be installed on
another computer as long as it is not OEM.
As long as the above are OK, install Windows XP Home can be installed
on the other computer.
At the Activation screen, choose "Activate by phone".
Call the displayed toll free number to Microsoft, done in about 5
minutes.
If I have it backwards as to which computer has Home Or Pro, still
choose phone activation.
