Milo: sort order on Start Menu

Posted: 05-06-2006, 08:23 PM
I'm reloading my computer after a hard drive crash and some setting is
different this time around.

On my start menu, i have a few folders for things I access frequently.
One of these is called Quickdocs and has shortcuts to a bunch of files I use
a lot.

Before, I could arrange these shortcuts on the secondary menu that pops up
after I click on StartMenu/Quickdocs. Now they are in alphabetical order and
it won't let me rearrange them.

What do i need to change? thanks!

SWAG.

If your right click menu is missing in the Start Menu...

XP Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button | Advanced tab |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
Click OK | Click OK

Classic Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
Click OK | Click OK

Enable dragging and dropping
[[Prevents users from using the drag-and-drop method to reorder or remove
items on the Start menu. Also, this entry removes context menus from the
Startmenu.]]

Thanks Wesley, but that wasn't it. It was already checked.

Tried to UNCHECK it to see what would happen and saw that that prevented
dragging and dropping on the primary start menu level. Re-enabled it so now
that works again, but it still doesn't work on any secondary menus.

Frustrating because I know it worked before the system crashed and I got a
new hard drive, so it CAN work. Please research further! Thanks!!!!

Open the Quickdocs folder...
Navigate to Start Menu/Quickdocs | Right click Quickdocs | Select Open |
Try sorting there

no, that won't help, though i appreciate the effort.

First, it simply didn't work. It rearranged the order should I click Open,
but did not rearrange them in the secondary menu off of Start.

Second, that would require me to choose a field to sort on. I want to put
them in an order that is logical to me, grouping some things...putting most
commonly used ones higher, etc.

Basically, I want to be able to do there just what you can do on the
Programs button -- drag items around where I want them. And it worked before
I reinstalled the same Windows release on my new hard drive so I know there's
a way.

still really hoping for more support on this. It worked the way I wanted
before the reinstall so I know it can be done.
