minimum processes to run in xp

Was wondering what essential processes must run in XP?
Trying to boost performance in Unreal Tournament and get
more out of my LT Winmodem (getting that annoying stutter
framing in online gaming...dunno if its modem or ISP).
Any help appreciated!

Please do NOT take the advice of a couple web sites or a certain PC magazine
and turn off any services. The one you safely can disable is Fast User
Switching, IF you're the only user on the system. Turn off themes who
you're running the game (Compatibility Mode - there's a check mark) and
turning off the fancy fading menu options, etc., will not compromise system
functions, but give you extra horsepower for the games. Also watch what
you're running in the background, like ZoneAlarm, anti-virus or any other
open programs.

.... and while we're at it, when you can, get a *hardware* modem, not a
Winmodem, when you can. Yes, they cost more - but it takes the load off the
processor (the actual *hardware* is there, not just the ports the processor
has to pay attention to.)

This is from win2000 pro (essential services in XP are similar):
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...2kservices.asp

That will give a bit better information/explanations of what each does.
Also push F1 key (help) and enter terms you need more info on.

There's a bunch more, above is good start/hint.
