missing c:\WINNT\downloaded program files

Posted: 04-07-2005, 06:29 AM
Does anyone know how I can get this file back? I deleted it and don't know if
it is an essential file that I will need in the future? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you

I you deleted these files Perhaps they are still in the recycle bin go there
first have a look and if you find them highlight them and hit restore if
not.............

If you have your XP cd place it in the cd rom and then go to start run and
type in. sfc /scannow
make sure there is a space between sfc / should XP also open a window just
exit it. Let scannow do its job it will take aprx 40 minutes depending on
your computer, it will repair corrupted/missing files, it does all this
silently in the background, it does not give you a report. when completed
reboot your machine and then check to see if your missing files have been
replaced.

Terry, I tried what you told me but a window came up and said, setup can not
continue because the version of windows on my computer is newer than version
on cd. Then said warning if you decide to delete newer version of windows
that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot
be recovered. I do not understand why the version on my computer would be
newer than whats on cd because I bought it brand new from Gateway. Puzzleing
to say the least. Thank you for helping me out tho.

I got your reply and I do not know how to resolve this matter however, If
you call Microsoft service pack 2 dept. your call will be totally free. You
must tell them that you recently installed service pack two and you keep
getting error message that some files are corrupted, make sure you tell them
it only happened since you installed service pack the number to call 1888
772 4357 if you are too honest and tell them that you deleted the files they
will charge you an arm and a leg. Blame it on service pack two and your case
will cost nothing. good luck

Terry, My computer is not that old so I called Gateway because I was upset
about recovery cd. They told me it is saying that because of service packs
that had been installed. So he had me do a recovery but it still did not
bring them back so I guess I have nothing to lose by trying your suggestion.
I want to thank you and want you to know I really appreciate your help. Susan
