RE: Missing PCI.sys

Posted: 07-24-2003, 03:36 AM
Hi John,

This issue occurs if the Pci.sys file is either missing or damaged.

To resolve this issue, start the computer in Safe Mode and extract the
Pci.sys file:

1. Restart your computer.
2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message,
press F8.
3. Use the arrow keys to select the appropriate Safe Mode option, and then
press ENTER.
4. If you have a dual-boot or a multiple-boot system, use the arrow keys to
select the installation that you want to access, and then press ENTER.
5. From the desktop, double-click "My Computer", and then double-click
"C:\".
6. Double-click "Windows", double-click "System32", and then double-click
"Drivers".
7. Rename the Pci.sys file to Pci.old.
8. Return to the Windows folder, double-click "Driver cache", and then
double-click "i386".
9. Double-click the "Driver.cab" file.
10. Right-click "Pci.sys", and then click "Extract".
11. Go to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder, and then click "Extract".
A new copy of the Pci.sys file is created in the Drivers folder.
12. Close all open windows, and then restart the computer.
