<missing provider>

I have an IBM ThinkPad R40 with a built-in 1394 port (TI OHCI) running
WinXP SP2. When I connect a DVcam, it is properly recognized and
appears under "Imaging Device" in DeviceManager but any DV capture
application - MovieMaker, DVIO, Adobe Premiere or Pinnacle Studio hang
up as long as the DV camera is ON.

If instead I connect a Cardbus 1394 (NEC OHCI) adapter and connect the
same DVcam to it, capture is OK.

I tried 2 other different DV cams and it behaves the same.

When the camera is connected to the built-in port I get a popup that
asks me what action to take - "Movie Maker <using provider>" or "Do
Nothing". It looks as if there is something missing in terms of
registry keys to enable a link of the application to the capture
driver.

Scanning the registry, it seems that both built in and Cardbus
adapters have similar definitions.

I would greatly appreciate any advise or hint how to resolve the
situation.

Try this

Execute the following onthe Start -> Run dialog

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

it should result in "RegisterSever succeeded in qdv.dll" message. After
wards restart WMM and retry.

Restotre the DLL you downgraded.

Graham,

Thanks for your help. What do you mean by "restore the DLL you downgraded"?

Graham,

I executed the "regsvr32..." command but the problem persists! Any
other idea? Is this a DirectShow issue? Is there a way to log or debug
it more closely (Graphfilter)?

Could it be some hardware issue of the TI chip? It does work well in
both network NIC mode as well as for attaching an external 1394 hard
drive.
