Missing radio button on Start Menu tab

Posted: 08-14-2003, 03:07 AM
I've been operating for some time using the Classic Start
menu. Recently, I decided to switch to the XP start menu.
When I accessed the Start Menu tab on the Task Bar and
Start Menu Properties page, I found that the radio button
and associated Customizing button had disappeared without
a trace. How do I restore it?

If you're running XP Pro, click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC Go to User
Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar. Look in the
right pane for Force classic Start Menu. Double click this entry. It should
be set to Not Configured.

For XP Home: Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore
r

Look in the right pane for a value called NoSimpleStartMenu. If the value
exists, double click it and set it to 0 (zero). If it doesn't exist, right
click in the right pane, select New, DWord value and name it
NoSimpleStartMenu. Leave it at 0.

Log off/log on for the change to take effect.

Thanks for a clear and accurate response. I followed your
instructions (('m running XP Home) and recovered my
missing button.
