Missing "run" on start"

Posted: 04-12-2004, 12:25 AM
When I click the start button, I do not have an option
for "Run". I assume there is some registry setting that
is controlling this.

Can anyone help me. Wunning windows XP Pro

Right-click on your Taskbar and select:
Properties > Start Menu > Customize.
Place a check next to "Display Run".
Click OK and Apply.

Hi,

Is the Run Command checked off here: Right click the Start
Button/Properties/Customize/Advanced/Run Command.

If this is not the case:

This can happen from having too many items listed on the Start Menu. The
run command is the first to go. If this is not the case, nor that Run isn't
chosen under Customize:

Restore the Run Command (Line 57)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | OK
Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu
and Taskbar\
Remove the Run menu from the Start menu

[[Allows you to remove the Run command from the Start menu, Internet
Explorer, and Task Manager.
If you enable this setting, the following changes occur:

(1) The Run command is removed from the Start menu.

(2) The New Task (Run) command is removed from Task Manager.

(3) The user will be blocked from entering the following into the Internet
Explorer Address Bar:

--- A UNC path: \\<server>\<share>
---Accessing local drives: e.g., C:
--- Accessing local folders: e.g., \temp>

Also, users with extended keyboards will no longer be able to display the
Run dialog box by pressing the Application key (the key with the Windows
logo) + R.

If you disable or do not configure this setting, users will be able to
access the Run command in the Start menu and in Task Manager and use the
Internet Explorer Address Bar.

Note:This setting affects the specified interface only. It does not prevent
users from using other methods to run programs.

Note: It is a requirement for third-party applications with Windows 2000 or
later certification to adhere to this setting.]]
