Missing "Shut Down" Button on Start Menu

Posted: 12-01-2003, 09:17 AM
Hi, one of my customers has an XP Pro machine where there
is no longer a "Shut Down" button next to the "Log Off"
Button. His only way to shut down is to logoff and then
select shut down. Can anyone throw any light on how to
restore the "Shut Down" button and how he managed to lose
it in the first place?

Hi Steve,
If your customer has Windows XP professional, then he can get the shut down
button back on the start menu through the Group Policy Editor (GPEDIT.MSC at
Start > Run). In the group policy editor, navigate to user
configuration>Administrative templates>Start menu and taskbar and in the
right pane look for the entry called "Remove and prevent access to the Shut
down command". Double click it and select "Not Configured". OK your way out.
The shut down option should re-appear on the start menu.

Try to set it as "Disabled".
